Bengaluru: The caste Hindus of Karnataka’s Chandapur village have prevented Dalits from drawing water from the only village well on claims that Lord Hanuman will become angry if Dalits draw water from that well.
A large share of the well water is used by the caste Hindus while the Dalits get only a pot or two a day after the former have drawn their required amounts. Since the Dalits are not even allowed to go near the only well in this drought-hit region, they have to wait for the caste Hindus to draw water for them at the latter’s convenience.
