New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday asked the center for a detailed reply on why it planned to deport thousands of Rohinya refugees to Myanmar.
In August, the Ministry of Home Affairs had sent a letter to state governments asking them to identify and deport all illegal immigrants, including Rohinya refugees. The letter said the refugees were a potential security threat and a burden on resources.
As per the reports, 16,000 Rohinya immigrants have registered at the UN High Commissioner office and around 40,000 unregistered Rohinya Muslims are living in the country.
