
New Delhi: The 65th National Film awards was announced on Friday by the jury headed by ace filmmaker Shekar Kapur. Late actress Sridevi and Bengali actor Riddhi Sen won the top honours for best actress and actor at the 65th National awards. Vinod Khanna bags the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award. Malayalam films shined big at the National awards by bagging nine awards. Jayaraj scored the national award for the best director for the movie 'Bhayanakam'. Actress Parvathy won a special jury mention for her performance in the Mahesh Narayan movie 'Take Off'. Actor Fahadh Faasil won the best supporting actor for the movie 'Tondimuthalum Drikshaakshiyum'. With ten awards Malayalam films gained a great momentum in the National Awards.
'Take off 'shined at the awards with Santhosh Raj bagging the best production design award. 'Tondimuthalaum Drikshaakhiyum' won the award for the best screenplay and 'Bhayanakam' won the best adapted screenplay directed by Jayaraj. Nikhil Praveen won the national award for the best cinematographer for the movie 'Bhayanakam'. 'Thondimuthalum Driksaakhiyum', the Dileesh Pothan movie was selected as the best movie in Malayalam. Shekhar Kapur also lauded Malayalam films for its quality and especially Fahadh's performance in the movie. Yesudas bagged the best singer award for 'Viswasapoorvam Mansoor' for the 8th time. State award winning movie 'Aalorukkam' starring Indrans also received a special jury mention.
Best film in 'Jasari' language was bagged by 'Sinjar' and 'Hello Aarasi' gets the Best Oriya Film award. SS Rajamouli's 'Baahubali 2' bagged two awards for special effects and choreography. Music maestro AR Rahman bagged two awards including best music director and best background score for 'Kaatru Veliyiadain' and MOM. 'Water baby' has been adjudged as the best Non-feature film this year. Marathi film 'Mayyar' has been selected as the Best short film in the fiction category. The awards were announced by a 10-member panel comprising screenwriter Imtiaz Hussain Lyricist Mehboob, actress Gauthami Tadimall and Kannada director P Shesadri.
