New Delhi: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) on last day told the Madras High Court that no homework should be given to school students up to Class II, as per the National Curriculum Framework.
The court also added that homework should be given only for two hours a week to students between classes III and V.
The submissions were made in a counter affidavit filed by NCERT secretary Harsh Kumar to a writ petition filed by advocate M Purushothamam. Mr Purushothaman had accused a majority of private schools, affiliated to the CBSE of dumping many subjects on school kids and subjecting them to mental pressure.
He also added that parents must stand up against schools which classify students as star performers, average, below average and failures and object to such discrimination.
