Kochi : Noted Malayalam writer and literally critic M Mukundan has been selected for this year's Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, Kerala government's highest literary honour.
The award was announced on Thursday by Culture Minister AK Balan. It was chosen by a committee chaired by Kerala Sahithya Akademi president Vaishakhan. The award includes a prize money of Rs 5 lakhs and a citation.
One of the pioneers of modernity in Malayalam literature, Mukundan is known as 'Mazzazhiyude Kathaakaaran'. Mukundan has so far published 12 novels and ten collections of short stories.
In 2008, Mukundan's magnum opus 'Mayyazhippuzhayude Theerangalil' fetched him the award for the best novel published in the last 25 years.
