Thiruvananthapuram : With hearths lined across the city, thousands of devotees across the world are gathered at the Attukal temple, at the Kerala capital to offer the pongal to Attukal bhagavathy.
The Pongala, marking the culmination of the 10-day long festival at the Attukal Bhagavathy will be initiated by purification ceremony ( Sudha Punyaham ). The 'Melshanti' will light the hearth inside the sanctum sanctorium . Conducted by around 250 priests, the libation (Nivedhaym) ceremony will be started at 2.15 pm.
Famed as the 'Sabarimala for women', the 'Attukal Pongala' also holds a Guinness record as an event of world's largest women gathering religious festival.
