Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s tweet claiming a new Covid variant allegedly found in Singapore has forced the Ministry of External Affairs to issue a clarification. In a tweet, the Delhi CM said Tuesday that a new strain of COVID-19 found in Singapore is said to be extremely dangerous for children and the same can lead to the advent of the third COVID-19 wave in India.
The CM urged the central government to immediately cancel flights operating between India and Singapore and asked them to work on priority to make the vaccine available to children.
After Singapore officially objected to Kejriwal’s remark, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar said that the two countries are ‘solid partners in the fight against COVID-19’. “Singapore and India have been solid partners in the fight against Covid-19. Appreciate Singapore’s role as a logistics hub and oxygen supplier. Their gesture of deploying military aircraft to help us speaks of our exceptional relationship,” he said in a tweet
