
Celebrities endorsing misleading products with doggy claims will face a fine of up to Rs 50 lakhs and a ban on appearing for advertisements up to three years.
A High level group of Ministers (GoM) on last day deliberated on the issue and agreed drop the provision for imprisonment of celebrities on such cases.
The issue of celebrities as endorsers of misleading brands came into the spotlight after the ban on Nestle India Ltd Maggi Noodles. Actors like Amithabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit and Preity Zinda had landed in trouble for endorsing the product.
