In a significant move that affects the functioning of the AIADMK and the future of the party's ousted leader O Panneerselvam, the Madras High Court on Wednesday ordered the status quo as of June 23, rendering July 11 General Council, which 'expelled' O Panneerselvam and picked K Palaniswami as interim chief, invalid.
The general council, AIADMK's highest decision-making body, 'expelled' rival leader O Panneerselvam and some of his associates from the party amid his leadership tussle with Palaniswami, who was picked as the interim general secretary of the party by the GC members. The party claimed that Panneerselvam acted against its principles and ethics, often siding with the DMK.
