
Mumbai: Jewellers sold 15 tonnes of gold ornaments and bars worth Rs 5000 Crore, on the night of November 8 and 9 after the government demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.
National Secretary of India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA) Surendra Mehta said that 15 tonnes of gold was sold between 8 pm on November 8 and 2-3 am the next day after PM's demonetisation announcement.
About 2500 jewelleries are registered under the IBJA and most of the sales happened in UP, Delhi and Punjab.
