Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Self-Financing Engineering Colleges Management Association decided to close down the 120 colleges under them in protest of the attack by student activists. The student unions had gone on a rampage following the suicide of Jishnu Pranoy of Nehru College of Engineering, Pampady, Thrissur.
A decision was also taken by the Kerala Technological University (KTU) to appoint an ombudsman for colleges. The colleges’ affiliations will be renewed based on the ombudsman’s report and the officer will be of rank not lower than a district judge. Meanwhile, the Crime Branch started investigation of Jishnu’s death and visited his hostel room for inspection.
