Noted lyricist and filmmaker Sreekumaran Thampi came out in support of film producers and said that the theatre owners’ claim for 50 percent of the film’s revenue is unfair.
He said that the theatre owners never suffer loses to the same degree as film producers. If a film does not make good collection, the producer loses all money while the theatre owner can screen another film and makeup the losses.
He added that, though it is hard for people to believe, the producers suffer the most sorrow and misery. They even sometimes lose their own houses in debt. So the current ratio of revenue distribution, 40 percent for theatre owners and 60 percent for producers, is only fair, he said.
