Varappuzha: The migratory birds that are feeding on the large number of fishes in Pokkali farms at Kadamakkudy in Varappuzha are being hunted down in large numbers.
There are more than 10 varieties of migratory birds in Kadamakkuddy and some of them are threatened species’. Though the birds usually left the place after Pokkali harvest, they now stay on even after that, affecting the fish cultivation badly.
Though plastic kits have been hung at various places to scare away the birds, the places with no plastic kits attract large number of birds which number to a total of about 1000.
