Cherthala: Shyamala, wife of Bhaskaran at Bhanu Nivas, has turned her entire 40 cent backyard into an organic farm where cabbages, carrots, beetroots and several other vegetables grow in abundance.
Started on a small-scale to meet the daily requirements at home, Shyamala expanded her vegetable garden after the initial success and the extra produce are now sold at the Kanjikuzhy PDS. The veggies are grown in over 1500 grow bags and are fertilized with organics.
Shyamala has already received several awards for best farming practices and her garden has drawn attention of several people, including the Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, P.Thilothaman.
