Film director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan criticised the State Film Award’s Best Picture award to Vidhu Vincent’s ‘Manhole’ and said that the film only succeeded to exploit popular sentiment towards a serious social issue.
He asked the jury to stop seeing films as a video footage of social issues and said that Vidhu and ‘Manhole’ did not deserve the award. Maintaining that he has nothing against the female director, he said he has great respect for her for venturing out to make a film without any popular stars.
Sasidharan also hoped that Vidhu does not heartily celebrate this award but instead silence her critics, including him, with her next film. He also added that he will be condemned for his comments. Sasidharan had not sent his latest film ‘Sexy Durga’ for the awards.
