In India, almost 200,000 patient needs dialysis every year and it is estimated that only 30% of the patients manage to receive the life saving therapy due to the non availability or unaffordability.
In a paper published in the journal Lanceleot, it said that we must ensure to provide dialysis to the needy with more cost-effective efforts, while maintaining minimum standards of quality and safety. The paper entitled as 'Ethical issues in Dialysis therapy' pointed that the health systems should establish programmes of kidney disease prevention and health promotion.
According to a systematic review worldwide, an estimated 2.28 million patients died in 2010 because of non-availability or unaffordability of dialysis.
