
Riyad: A Saudi man has been jailed for one year after calling for an end to the Kingdom's male guardianship system. Besides the jail term, a court in the eastern city of Dammam also slapped a fine of Rs 30,000 riyals on him.
As per the reports, he was accused of spreading the statement through Twitter and online campaigning. He was arrested while putting up posters in mosques in Al Hasa district.
While questioning, he admitted putting up posters in several mosques by saying that some of his female relatives were facing injustice at their homes due to the law. Under the guardianship in Saudi Arabia, a male member in the family must grant permission for a women's study, travel and other activities.
