The United States is a federal constitutional republic that follows Presidential form of Government according to which the President is the chief executive and the federal government headed by the president shares sovereignty with the state governments.
The President is independent of the legislature. There is bi-cameral legislative system in America: the Senate and the House of Representatives . The judiciary that is independent interprets the United States Constitution and federal laws and regulations. This includes resolving disputes between the executive and legislative. The main political parties that dominate American politics since the American Civil War are the Democratic Party and the Republican Party . The predominant principles which govern American democracy are :
Popular Sovereignty.
Republicanism.
Federalism.
Separation of Powers.
Checks and Balances.
Limited Government.
Independent judiciary
The recent incident that took place in the U.S. Capitol complex is viewed as challenge to Democracy and rule of law, for Trump supporters violently storm Capitol in insurrection before Congress certifies Biden’s win. It is a benighted and barbarous act What began as a senatorial debate over the integrity of the 2020 election in Pennsylvania and other states has ended with lawmakers huddled on the floor of the
U.S. House of Representatives, and tear gas wafting through the soaring Rotunda, and American attackers finally smashing their way through the House and Senate chamber doors as reported by officials. Security staff started aiming pistols through the shattered windowpanes in the doors, as the mob pressed from outside, attempting to overturn a democratic election. Alas! What a paradox it is!
The reliable sources say, “Frightened lawmakers, donning protective masks, shuffled alongside armed guards as they evacuated down hallways, while Trump supporters paraded just steps away with Confederate battle flags. Someone stood a noose outside the Capitol building”
The D.C. Metropolitan Police stated that a woman was mortally shot by police inside the Capitol and three others died in the immediate area from medical emergencies. More than 50 people were consequently arrested. How can a civilized society tolerate and watch the scene without any reaction?
However, police eventually cleared out the Trump supporters and the Congress reconvened to proceed with certifying the Electoral College victory of the President- elect Joe Biden. It may be the first time in the history happening in such a brutal way.
Pro-Trump insurrection at Capitol is, no doubt, an attempted coup, according to former D.C. and Philly police Chief Charles H. Ramsey . So also Congresswoman Susan Wild described the attack on the Capitol that she started hearing shots and breaking glass. The democratic world is bewildered and astounded on witnessing such a criminal lunacy. Trump totally disagreed with the outcome of the election that has now resulted
in tyranny Trump said, “I have always said we would continue our fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted,”. “While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!” this statement reveals the real attitude and mindset of Trump as a dictator. It also shows that how he has represented a giant Democratic country in the world till
recently.
However, the tragic drama staged at Capitol Complex in America is a warning to the all “Big Powers” in the world. We can, sometimes, expect the same in India too in future. Democracy and human values are not safe in the hands of dictators. The recent developments in America raise many questions before the common masses in the world. Rulers always cling to power as it is a magical world of enjoyment of everything
at the cost of laymen who are always and in every society the ruled, and they are supposed to live as the depressed and oppressed. This can happen anywhere in the world, for corporate sectors are being strengthened over the common masses that finally lead to the establishment of a new culture known as Corporate Culture. The democratic world saw an unprecedented attack on American democracy incited by the United States president.
World leaders, moreover, condemned the brutality of Trump by expressing shock at the chaos unfolding in the country. Prime Minister Boris Johnson of Britain tweeted, “Disgraceful scenes in US Congress,” The United States stands for democracy around the world, but it is now vital that there should be a peaceful and orderly transfer of power.
World leaders timely reacted with horror to the chaos that has ashamed Washington, describing the incident as “disgraceful”, “pitiful”, and “shocking” and as part of that prime ministers and presidents around the world urged US president Donald Trump and his supporters to accept the result of November’s presidential election. According to Germany’s chancellor, Angela Merkel, a fundamental rule of democracy is that, after elections, there are winners and losers. Both have to play their role with decency and responsibility so that democracy itself remains the winner contrary to the willful attempt to defeat the world democracy.
Despite France’s president, Emmanuel Macron, confirmed his country’s friendship and faith to the US, stating, “We believe in the strength of our democracies, we believe in the strength of American democracy.” Let’s listen to his statement and hope that it shall be the last incident in the democratic world. But we, all democrats irrespective of territories and races, should be keen to see that the black day of America can be
repeated anywhere at any time.
